About Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church
The Mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed.
Bethel A.M.E Church has been a fixture in San Antonio since the 1800s. In 1889, a few members from St. James A.M.E. Church came together to establish a church on the East Side of San Antonio. A small frame church was built that same year. The church was later rebuilt at the current location, and the cornerstone was laid on November 21, 1915.
